.: About us

The Kepier Hall is one of the oldest buildings in Houghton-le-Spring and has Grade 2* status; having originally been built as a Grammar School for the boys of the parish in 1574. It served this function until 1923 when a new Grammar School was built between the junction of Hetton Road & Durham Road. The image below shows the pupils of the school playing in the churchyard in about 1830.

After a spell as the church hall the building was extended and in 2009/10 was totally refurbished both inside & out to offer acommunity facility for the town as well as a much needed local function venue.

The building is actively maintained and the management committee have plans to install both a permanent licenced bar and P.A. facilities within the next 12 months.
